About
Relationship-centered transformation, from the inside out
Emergent Leaders Consulting is an HR and People Operations practice based in Atlanta, Georgia. We help organizations build people infrastructure that can carry the weight of their ambitions.
The approach
Why "emergent"
Most organizational change fails the same way: a plan is designed at the top, announced at scale, and expected to hold still while conditions move.
Emergent Strategy — a body of work by adrienne maree brown, drawing on complexity and movement organizing — offers a different frame. Change propagates through relationships. Small, well-designed interventions reproduce themselves. What you practise at small scale is what you get at large scale, so the practice is the strategy.
In consulting terms that means we test a new review format with one team before rolling it to forty, we treat manager relationships as the actual delivery mechanism for culture, and we build plans designed to be revised rather than defended. It also means we are honest about causality: much of what gets attributed to an HR program is regression to the mean, and knowing the difference is the job.
What we believe
Four commitments
These are the values we assess our own work against — and the ones we help clients define behaviourally for themselves.
Impact
Work that changes a number or changes a decision. We name how we'll measure progress before we start, and we report it even when it's unflattering.
Inclusion
Equity designed into the system rather than appended to it. If a process produces different outcomes for different groups, the process is the finding.
Curiosity
We look at your data before we form a view, and we're willing to be wrong in public. The illusion of validity — believing we know more about people than we do — is the standing risk in this field.
Consistency
Documented, repeatable practice beats heroics. A process that only works when a specific person runs it isn't a process yet.
How we're different
Capability, not decks
We score before we recommend
Every engagement opens with a diagnostic against defined drivers, not a discovery conversation that confirms what leadership already suspected. You get a baseline you can measure against later.
We sequence across three horizons
Two months, six months, twelve months — each with why that area is the priority, what resources it needs, and how progress gets measured. A twenty-item list of recommendations is a way of avoiding the decision.
We build for the people who'll run it
The deliverable is a rubric your interviewers use, a band structure your managers can explain, a dashboard leadership reads without asking for a rebuild. If it needs us to operate, we've failed.
We say when we're not the fit
Some problems are strategy problems wearing an HR costume, and some organizations need an employment lawyer before they need a consultant. We'll tell you which one you're looking at.
